Safety Specialist

Description

The Safety Specialist assists the Director of Safety and provides training for field employees to maintain a safe work environment. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive jobsite inspections, evaluating work practices, developing safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and company standards. The role also involves investigating violations, reporting accidents, supporting injured workers, delivering safety trainings, and administering the substance‑abuse program. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

• Conduct comprehensive jobsite inspections to identify hazards and ensure OSHA, company, and Owner/GC compliance.
• Evaluate work practices with supervisors and suggest improvements for a safe environment.
• Develop and enforce jobsite safety procedures for identified hazards.
• Implement consistent safety procedures across all operations meeting federal, state, local, and company regulations.
• Participate in safety organizations and attend relevant seminars.
• Investigate and document safety violations, ensure corrective actions are implemented and followed up.
• Complete accident and near‑miss reporting and investigations.
• Accompany injured employees for treatment and support the Safety Director in injury management.
• Deliver on‑the‑spot training, weekly safety topics, orientations, and other safety classes.
• Administer the field substance‑abuse program.

Requirements

Qualified candidates will hold an occupational safety/health degree or equivalent experience, with at least five years of construction safety experience. Preferred credentials include a Journeyman Electrician license and OSHA 500 Trainer certification, along with strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills. Physical capability to work on‑site, including standing, walking, and performing various movements, is required.

• Hold an occupational safety/health degree or equivalent training/experience.
• Minimum of 5 years construction safety experience.
• Journeyman Electrician license preferred.
• OSHA 500 Trainer Course certification preferred.
• Ability to enforce applicable regulations and recognize hazardous situations.
• Strong training and education skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Physical ability to work on sites, stand, walk, and perform required movements.
