Senior Structural Engineer - Bridges and Civil Structures

Description

• Lead design of above‑ and below‑ground structures from planning through implementation.
• Lead assessment, rehabilitation, and seismic upgrade design of existing structures.
• Coordinate with clients, professionals and third parties.
• Prepare technical memos and reports.
• Supervise, review, and coordinate work of other structural engineers, including drawings, cost estimates, specifications and construction support.
• Oversee project planning and management to ensure fit‑for‑purpose delivery on schedule and budget.
• Provide project management, technical oversight, mentorship and uphold professional standards.
• Identify new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
• Lead proposal preparation.
• Manage design teams and resources to meet schedule and budget requirements.

Requirements

• 10‑15 years of structural engineering and project management experience, especially in transportation and heavy civil structures (BC experience preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering; master’s degree is an asset.
• Professional Engineer (PEng) registration in British Columbia.
• Knowledge of BC Ministry of Transportation projects and municipal delivery processes.
• Expertise in reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, structural steel, earthquake engineering and performance‑based design.
• Familiarity with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and related supplements.
• Experience with design‑bid‑build and alternative procurement models (e.g., P3, Design‑Build).
• Strong team orientation, self‑motivation and ability to manage multiple responsibilities in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Excellent verbal, written and graphical communication skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, CSI Bridge and MIDAS.
