  • Identify opportunities for employee engagement to make EHS part of daily work for all Scouts.
  • Serve as system owner for Hammertech, Avetta, and Gaize.
  • Provide leadership with regular reports and dashboards summarizing key metrics and trends.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (incident rates, audit outcomes, training completion).
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including environmental permits (PSD, Title V, industrial wastewater, etc.).
  • Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in EHS to inform future strategy.
  • Lead internal awareness campaigns that promote proactive safety and environmental responsibility.
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Support the development of SOPs and performance dashboards promoting transparency and accountability.
  • Deploy Process Safety Management (PSM) systems for covered processes; oversee safety buyoffs for equipment installation and commissioning; manage ergonomic interventions.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and auditors.
  • Use proactive data and insights to drive EHS programming forward.
  • Track spending against budget and report variances to the Senior Director.
  • Create and foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and team members.
  • Identify and manage appropriate use of AI and VR tools (e.g., Gaize) for impairment testing, risk identification, and training.
  • Provide input on long-range EHS planning, resource needs, and operational readiness for production launch.
  • Support the Senior Director in developing and implementing EHS strategic objectives aligned with Scout’s corporate and production goals.
  • Develop and deliver communications related to production-related EHS performance and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Identify cost-effective solutions to enhance EHS performance and compliance efficiency.
  • Develop and manage an operating budget for consumables and services.
  • Maintain standardized documentation of EHS programs, inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Benchmark Scout’s programs against industry best practices and lead targeted improvements.
  • Perform risk assessments addressing equipment safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, process safety, and environmental impacts.
  • Utilize Benchmark, Avetta, and Hammertech to monitor EHS program health and contractor compliance.
  • Develop and manage the EHS production operating budget, including tools, consumables, and professional services.
  • Support activities to achieve ISO 14001, 45001, and 50001 certifications.
  • Maintain required regulatory records and workers’ compensation documentation.
  • Collaborate with occupational medical and early symptom intervention providers, workers’ compensation representatives, and others for case management and return-to-work programs.
  • Embrace Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and ensure incorporation into EHS activities, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the EHS team; serve as a technical expert across functions.
  • Assure closure of any audit and incident-related corrective actions in area of responsibility.
  • Implement EHS initiatives in a collaborative, results-driven manner that ensures adoption and compliance.
  • Translate strategic direction into actionable programs and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans based on assessments, process knowledge, and event data.

  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.

  • Residing in New York City: This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.
  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial construction or manufacturing projects preferred.
  • Travel: Domestic and International Travel Required, up to 15% of the time. Valid Drivers License Required. Passport Required.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in EHS, preferably within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Passport Required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
  • Experience managing relationships with regulators and external auditors.

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC and Blythewood, SC.
  • Proficiency in EHS digital systems; experience with Benchmark, Avetta, and Hammertech preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field; certifications (ASP/CSP, CIH) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, ISO standards, and consensus standards (RIA, NFPA, ASTM, etc.).
