  • Demonstrated ability to provide design with constructability in mind throughout all design life cycle. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage the strengths and expertise of others to deliver innovative solutions that meet our clients’ needs.
  • 20 years of Traction Power design experience with 750 V dc third rail and overhead; 12 kV ac, 25 Hz, 2 x 12.5 kV ac, 60 Hz, 2 x 25 kV, 60 Hz with a strong focus on constructability.
  • Proven track record of leading design teams and optimizing designs for construction efficiency
  • Extensive experience in the execution and task leadership for electrical substations, electrical work in the railroad environment, design calculations, plans development, specifications and technical report writing
  • Ability to perform project work as well as serve as a technical leader
  • Self-motivated professional with the ability to anticipate, plan for, and act on risks and opportunities in alignment with business goals and organizational structure.
  • Ability to prepare and guide drafters/designers to prepare one-line diagrams, elementary and detailed wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling, test plans, field tests, reports, analysis, and technical studies for traction power systems.
  • Ability to perform site investigations and walk-downs in high-voltage substations and along electrified railroads
  • Experience technical studies for traction power systems, including train performance simulations, ac and dc load flow simulations, short circuit calculations, EMF/EMI studies
  • Ability to understand and retrieve relay settings. Ability to recommend appropriate actions to ensure compliance with all clients, local, state and federal regulations including APTA Rail Transit standards, AREMA railway standards, the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the National Electrical Safety Code (IEEE C2), and other standards as applicable.
  • Ability to communicate well with others and support business development opportunities
  • Experience in design/build and other alternative delivery projects
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally to all AECOM, partner, and client office locations, including project offices, if applicable
  • Experience with SEPTA, WMATA, LIRR, NJ Transit, PATH, PATCO and Amtrak Traction Power
  • Serves as a fully capable professional in the field with minimal direction
  • Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures software and tools to facilitate high quality cost-effective technical project activities
  • experience in writing of technical papers and developing technical presentations
  • Technical competence in all elements of transit traction power engineering
  • Ability to prepare design drawings and documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, proposals, calculations, and studies associated with traction power systems for both AC & DC electrified railways.
