The Central Office Planner (Network & Fiber Access) designs, deploys, operates, and optimizes network equipment and fiber‑access infrastructure within central office facilities. This role supports IP, transport, and fiber access networks—including OLT‑based architectures—while ensuring IOF diversity, efficient space utilization, and high availability across Central Office‑to‑Central Office environments.
- Design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot central office routers, switches, OLTs, and transport systems.
- Support fiber access and IP technologies like GPON, XGS‑PON, IP/MPLS, carrier Ethernet, and VoIP.
- Plan and implement Central Office‑to‑Central Office OLT architectures and interconnections.
- Coordinate builds, augments, and migrations with engineers, IOF teams, and vendors.
- Manage relay rack layouts, floor space, power distribution, and equipment placement for scalable growth.
- Lead augment projects to expand network capacity and fiber access coverage.
- Implement IOF diversity strategies to ensure redundancy and resiliency.
- Perform turn‑up, testing, validation, and acceptance of new network and fiber services.
- Monitor network performance, alarms, capacity, and troubleshoot outages or degradations.
- Oversee DC power systems, including power plants, rectifiers, batteries, and generator interfaces.
- Execute planned maintenance, upgrades, and migrations with minimal customer impact.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, rack elevations, fiber assignments, and inventory records.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

The position is remote, requiring work during Mountain Standard Time hours, and involves extensive coordination with Central Office Engineers, network engineering teams, IOF groups, and external vendors. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for translating complex technical data into actionable insights, and the role demands the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a 24x7 carrier‑grade environment.
- Hold an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Possess 3–7+ years of experience in a telecommunications central office environment.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of IP networking, routing, switching, and fiber access architectures.
- Hands‑on experience with OLT platforms and fiber network deployments.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, network diagrams, and fiber documentation.
- Preferred: experience with GPON, XGS‑PON, DWDM, IP/MPLS core networks, and relevant certifications (CCNA/CCNP, MEF, FOA).
- Preferred: proficiency with network monitoring, alarm, inventory systems, automation/scripting, and 3GIS software.
