The Wastewater Operator III is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a wastewater treatment facility. This role monitors system performance, makes necessary adjustments, and ensures that equipment such as pumps, conveyors, blowers, and vacuum systems remain operational.
Key duties include monitoring effluent to maintain compliance, overseeing inbound waste loads, directing drivers to follow site safety procedures, and collaborating with other operators and the manager to address treatment issues. The operator records daily system readings, enters data into information systems, reviews maintenance records, and handles waste receipt and shipment logs. Routine laboratory sampling, testing, and both indoor and outdoor housekeeping tasks are also performed.
Candidates must have current 40‑Hour HAZWOPER training (or be able to obtain it), extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and supporting electrical/hydraulic systems, and familiarity with collection systems, pumps, and mechanical/electrical theory. Proficiency in laboratory sampling, strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and solid problem‑solving and communication skills are essential.
A minimum of four to seven years of related experience as a wastewater operator is required.
