The Project Engineer provides technical engineering information to the Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, and specifications. This role supports the project by interpreting drawings and resolving technical issues.
The Project Engineer reports directly to the Project Manager and is accountable for delivering engineering support and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential functions include interpreting blueprints, researching and resolving drawing issues, preparing field design change requisitions and “as‑built” drawings, and generating documentation such as status reports, punch lists, sketches, and material calculations. The Engineer also presents blueprint discrepancies to the Project Manager and Superintendent, prepares purchase and change orders, and performs additional assignments as requested.
Key duties involve supervising field layout and surveying activities, reviewing and issuing valid drawings and engineering documents to field staff, ensuring all data comply with engineering standards, maintaining field engineering books and records, overseeing concrete inspections and sign‑offs, and maintaining control and calibration of surveying equipment.
Performance is measured by accurate interpretation of drawings, effective resolution of blueprint problems, correct preparation of change requisitions and “as‑built” drawings, timely and professional documentation, clear presentation of discrepancies, execution of additional duties, and accurate maintenance of document control logs.
A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. No specific experience is required, though three years of construction experience is preferred. The position demands advanced computer skills, knowledge of construction equipment, drawings, specifications, building materials, and the ability to perform mathematical calculations and communicate effectively.
Physical demands include occasional site inspections requiring walking, climbing ladders and stairs, and the ability to see, hear, and speak clearly. Mental demands involve working under stressful deadlines, communicating in English both verbally and in writing, and comprehending business math and data interpretation.
