Senior Architect / Project Manager – Federal

Description

In this position the incumbent will oversee projects ranging from $10 million to over $500 million, develop integrated design proposals for both design‑build and design‑bid‑build contracts, manage project financials, and coordinate directly with government clients while fostering collaboration among team members.

• Lead planning, design, and construction of military facilities per DoD standards, UFGS, and UFC
• Collaborate with Moffatt & Nichol Design Studios across the company
• Manage cross‑functional teams of architects, engineers, subconsultants, and government stakeholders
• Oversee full project lifecycle from concept through commissioning and turnover
• Ensure compliance with federal regulations, anti‑terrorism/force protection, and environmental standards
• Coordinate with government clients to define operational requirements and integrate mission‑critical systems
• Prepare and review design documents, specifications, and cost estimates
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for new and existing installations
• Implement quality assurance and control measures to ensure project integrity
• Lead risk assessments and mitigation planning for secure, mission‑sensitive environments
• Mentor junior staff and support professional development

Requirements

The company is seeking a Senior Architect / Project Manager with Federal project experience to join its Norfolk office, strengthening the firm’s Mid‑Atlantic Federal practice. The role will lead the design, development, and execution of large‑scale military facilities, supporting the Navy’s Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program.

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (required)
• Master’s degree in Architecture (preferred)
• Registered Architecture (RA) license (required)
• Minimum 15 years facility design and construction experience, including 5 years on military or federal projects (required)
• Knowledge of DoD design standards, MILCON processes, and FAR (required)
• Experience designing shipyard, industrial, and mission‑critical infrastructure (required)
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, and Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
• U.S. citizenship required; must pass background check and meet NIST 800‑171 compliance
