The Biological Inventory Manager for the IRF‑Frederick provides oversight, auditing, and planning for biological samples, including select agents and toxins (BSAT), stored, received, and shipped by the institute. This role operates within both BSL‑2 and BSL‑4 high‑containment laboratories and serves as a subject‑matter expert on regulatory requirements, advising the IRF Director and NIH Division of Safety on inventory management and emergent issues.
Key responsibilities include overseeing electronic and physical inventories of long‑term select agent samples and short‑term experimental samples, conducting unannounced audits of laboratory and freezer spaces, and drafting reports with remediation recommendations. The manager also develops and delivers Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) training and proficiency evaluations, provides backup to the Virology Repository Manager, and supports mission‑critical research activities.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree with specialized training in virology, molecular biology, serology, or immunology, and have at least two years of relevant experience, including recent BSL‑4 work. Preferred qualifications include prior experience with the IRF inventory management system and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
The position offers a salary range of $85,000 to $141,000, dependent on factors such as skill set, experience, and certifications.
