  • Use and understand the fiber optic color code. Read prints Install and test fiber cable in a variety of environments (underground, aerial).
  • Adhere to and advance Henkels & McCoy’s Safety Principles Work with foreman/construction manager to plan installations as required.
  • Place both aerial and underground splice closures along with a variety of other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables.
  • Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times.
  • All applicants must follow safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Perform testing utilizing OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources and VFLs. Record and document testing per customer specifications.
  • Bond and ground fibers according to current specifications.
  • Use fiber fusion splicing machines (including a mass fusion splicing machine) and operate a variety of different OTDR and power meters.

  • 2+ years of experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.
  • A pre-employment, on site skills assessment certification will be required. The applicant must successfully prove to the satisfaction of the construction supervision that he/she possesses the fiber splicing abilities required for this position.
  • Work up to 5 days per week (ability to work overtime as required) in an all -weather environment and be willing to travel as required.
  • This position requires significant time doing manual labor functions, walking on uneven ground, working in tight spaces and in general, being overall physically demanding. Must be able to perform heavy physical work and perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must have the experience to detect safety issues and work independently.
  • All applicants must speak the English language fluently and clearly.
  • Will have a thorough working knowledge of most widely used construction practices of fiber cable.
  • Must be capable of carrying up to a 32 foot ladder and wear fall protection when needed.
