Load Builder I Yard/Warehouse

Description

The Materials Handler works under general supervision to manage the movement of building materials within the yard and to customer sites, ensuring deliveries are prepared correctly and safely.

• Load and unload materials onto/from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles; install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage.
• Build load packages by determining appropriate weight, composition, and placement to ensure balanced, safe hauling.
• Read work orders or follow oral instructions to identify materials to be moved or loaded.
• Transport materials using hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other devices.
• Open containers, units, slings, and loads using steel cutters, crowbars, claw‑hammers, or similar hand tools.
• Attach identifying tags or labels and mark cases, bales, or containers for correct identification.
• Follow all safety procedures, attend periodic safety meetings, and suggest improvements to safety practices.
• Apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Count items and verify quantities against prepared lists.

Requirements

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED, have at least three months of relevant experience, and possess a valid forklift operator certification.

Work is performed in a production or yard environment with temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust. Employees must be able to lift frequently up to 25 lb and occasionally up to 80 lb, and may be required to climb, push, kneel or perform other physical tasks.

• Maintain manual dexterity and use simple hand tools effectively.
• Possess forklift operator certification and knowledge of product weight, shape, and handling requirements.
• Ability to read and write for handling work orders and labeling tasks.
• Understand safety procedures for forklift operation and materials handling.
• Lift and carry frequently up to 25 lb; occasional lifts up to 80 lb; perform climbing, pushing, kneeling as needed.
