Electrical Field Service Technician

Description

The Electrical Field Technician will support maintenance and operation of Giga’s electrical infrastructure products in the Houston area. Working hands-on with critical electrical and instrumentation systems, the technician ensures performance, reliability, and uptime for client facilities. The role involves solving problems, building systems, and contributing to the rapid growth of the energy and data-center business. This position is pivotal to delivering mission-critical solutions.

• Install, integrate, and maintain process instrumentation equipment (gauges, switches, controllers, transmitters, fuses).
• Install new control circuits and modify existing electrical systems, including design, load, and implementation of new logic.
• Troubleshoot VFDs, soft starters, breakers, relays, contractors and instrumentation devices (pressure/temperature transmitters, level and pressure switches, limit switches).
• Conduct field failure analysis to determine if issues are process-driven or due to failed equipment.
• Perform proper terminations of all I/O components and instrumentation, ensuring correct labeling per specifications.
• Troubleshoot and maintain fluid transfer systems, including pumps, piping, and valves (sometimes with limited documentation).
• Assist clients with commissioning air-cooled and liquid-cooled modular data centers.
• Monthly team onsites for in‑person collaboration.

Requirements

The role is based in the Houston office and requires full-time field work, with travel up to 75% nationally depending on project needs. Candidates must be willing to travel with minimal notice.

• 5+ years of experience in electrical maintenance or related field.
• Ability to travel nationally up to 75% with minimal notice.
• Experience with 480V and 3-phase systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical principles, practices, and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, relay logic diagrams, PLC programs, and motor control circuit diagrams.
• Hands‑on experience with VFDs, soft starters, and instrumentation devices.
• Understanding of process instrumentation equipment (gauges, switches, controllers, transmitters, thermocouples).
• Proficiency with calibration instruments and tooling.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills with a customer‑focused approach.
• Experience in system controls or mission‑critical infrastructure.
• Knowledge of bitcoin mining operations or the cryptocurrency industry.
• OSHA certification or other safety training credentials.
• Experience making terminations for LV 480V cables.
