The Trade Foreman 1 supports construction activities on a jobsite by using tools, working on punch lists, and executing self‑perform work. This role involves completing tasks personally while supervising a crew as a working foreman, all in alignment with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.
Core responsibilities include embracing the company’s safety culture, using tools to complete assigned tasks, tracking units and labor hours, maintaining equipment, and leading crew safety and security. The foreman must achieve production goals, set appropriate crew sizes, document activities, coordinate deliveries, uphold quality standards, and manage trade work within the scope. Additional duties involve participating in safety meetings, reading plans and drawings, providing on‑the‑job guidance, coordinating inspections, and updating punch lists.
The foreman makes routine decisions, offers recommendations to the supervisor, and refers exceptions up the chain. The career path progresses to Trade Foreman 2.
Key knowledge, skills, and abilities encompass accurate and timely work performance, strong verbal and written communication, understanding of organizational resources, and application of Lean principles. The role requires familiarity with self‑perform productivity, specific trade scopes, construction management methods, intermediate layout and crane‑flagging skills, and the ability to read plans and specifications. Candidates should also be able to evaluate productivity rates, optimize project performance, and build collaborative relationships.
A high school diploma or GED is required, and a vocational/technical degree in a related field is preferred. Candidates must have at least two years of commercial construction experience.
The position demands the ability to lift at least 50 lb, may involve travel, exposure to extreme temperatures, and non‑traditional hours to meet project needs. Frequent activities include standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, and pulling, with occasional sitting and computer use.
