Be vigilant and anticipate technical risks and design strategies to protect SBC and the JV against those technical risks.
Coordinate with clients, engineering consultants and other stakeholders to discuss and solve design and construction related topics.
Manage engineering development
Function as the prime contact coordinating the resolution of design and engineering problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives.
Monitor and report progress against design schedule. Review and approve tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
Ensure due diligence and review of design submittals provided by designers, sub-consultants and clients, checking for accuracy and compliance with technical provisions and design standards.
Lead and manage both internal and external engineers and coordinate design activities between estimating, construction, external consultants and clients.
Prepare and monitor design budget and schedule and produce periodic Design Progress Reports.
Collaborate closely with construction and estimating teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
Direct and support the formation of project teams, including the selection of design partners and consultants in alignment with contract requirements and team agreements.
Apply strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and guide a diverse group of stakeholders toward timely and efficient contract delivery.
Navigate and contribute across all design-related aspects of a project, from technical execution to commercial strategy.
Manage design development activities, including resource planning, budgeting, and scheduling, to ensure the successful completion and close-out of all deliverables.
Engage collaboratively with stakeholders, developers, letting authorities, partners, and design consultants to align on goals, solicit input, and support group decisions—even when those decisions differ from personal viewpoints.
Participate in meetings with owners, developers, partners and subs.
Provide the best technical solutions to optimize the design, minimizing quantities and/or construction time, while all technical requirements are met.
Initiate, coordinate, and design concepts and calculations, as needed.
Develop or evaluate plans/criteria or special analyses required in support of the design effort.
Work in a multidisciplinary environment, actively communicating with the rest of SBC, the joint venture teams, S&B estimating and construction teams, and its other members to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.
Lead design development efforts across pursuits, detailed design phases, preconstruction coordination and construction services for projects.
Develop and implement both near-term and long-term strategies for design execution and relationships management.
Review and supervise proposed revisions to contracts, technical provisions, design requirements, and reference information documents.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good relationships and partnerships with clients, vendors, subcontractors and construction partners required.
Alternative Delivery experience in large projects (>$500M), such as DB, CMGC, Progressive DB, and P3, on the contractor or designer side
Knowledge of means and methods of construction
Must have the experience and capacity to deliver the design for large scale, highly important infrastructure construction projects involving complex technical issues.
Adapt to varying project phases and responsibilities, and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
On-site and field experience on civil projects
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one state, with the ability to obtain registration in other states.
Serve as a highly experienced and personable leader with strong design management capabilities, excellent strategic networking skills.
Willingness to travel as needed for projects is required.
Experience and good relationship working with state DOTs is highly valuable.
Effective communication
Knowledge and experience with scheduling software (i.e. Microsoft Project and/or P-6)
Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA and DOT regulations is required.
Demonstrated familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is also required.
