This position provides guidance on historical designs, fosters innovation toward standardization, and offers technical leadership while mentoring engineers in the department. Transmission Underground oversees projects utilizing diverse cable systems, including XLPE, HPFF, LPFF, and superconductors.
Performs assignments while acting independently, and may lead multi-discipline teams, may include providing direct oversight of contractors.
This work demands meticulous coordination for selecting cable routes, designing bonding schemes, and managing underground civil construction to accommodate intricate designs within densely populated urban environments.
Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest, make recommendations for business decisions regarding strategy for new technologies and/or engineering techniques and tools.
Responsibilities include leading upgrades, retrofitting and reconductoring existing lines, and connecting new substations by installing cables, accessories, pumping plants, and forced cooling equipment.
Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attend meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
Influences project decisions having a significant impact on the company.
Acts as an expert witness or provide expert opinions as required.
Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction

With nearly 400 miles of underground cable operating at 69kV to 345kV, a subject matter expert in Transmission Underground Design is essential to ensure the department's continued success and reliable system operation.
