Material Testing Technician

Description

As a Material Testing Technician you will perform construction materials testing in the field and laboratory to ensure materials meet applicable state, local, and project specifications. You will collaborate closely with inspectors, project managers, and laboratory staff to support quality construction outcomes.

• Perform field testing of concrete, mortar, grout, and other cementitious materials.
• Conduct compaction testing in the field using a Nuclear Density Gauge.
• Conduct laboratory testing of soils and construction materials at the Columbus lab.
• Prepare clear, complete daily materials testing reports.
• Communicate test results and site conditions with the Laboratory Manager, Project Inspectors, and Project Managers.
• Maintain testing equipment and follow safety and quality procedures.
• Perform additional duties to support project and laboratory operations.
• Work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.

Requirements

We are seeking Material Testing Technicians at all experience levels to support our growing construction services team. This role offers hands‑on field work, technical skill development, and long‑term career growth in construction materials testing.

• One or more years of construction materials testing experience preferred for experienced candidates.
• Demonstrate general math proficiency to pass certification exams.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (equipment provided for heavier items).
• Hold a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
• Possess or pursue certifications such as ODOT, NICET, Asphalt, or ACI Concrete Field Testing (company will pay for required certifications).

Benefits

Starting pay for entry‑level candidates with no experience is $25 per hour. Experienced technicians receive compensation commensurate with certifications and experience.
