Engineering Group Leader

As an Engineering Group Leader, you will be expected to lead the allocated Engineering design and project engineering team to deliver the technical solutions and associated deliverables to meet the project specifications. You will be responsible for the technical quality, allocated engineering hours and delivery adherence for all technical aspects with support from the Engineering Function and Head of Engineering.

• Engineering team performance in respect to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People(SQCDP).
• Check and approve of design and project engineering deliverables.
• Support engineering function in identifying improvements in tools, standards, methods and best practices to elevate departmental performance. Offer and promote innovative solutions that enable the reduction of costs.
• Provide technical guidance, constructive feedback, and support to help engineers grow their skills and experience to develop professionally.
• Responsible for engineering deliverables, designs, specifications, project method scopes and associated project timelines for subsea activities dependent on project requirements.
• Participating in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT).
• Lead the entire project engineering scope, from design, structural analysis and project engineering support, ensuring technical signoff and appropriate validation and verification.
• Responsibility for full design lifecycle from concept to delivery; driving functional requirements, quality, and performance.
• Conducting detailed analysis of design requirements, specifications, and project objectives to develop innovative mechanical design solutions.
• Work collaboratively with project managers, operations team, suppliers, and clients to ensure the engineering solutions meet expectations and safety requirements.
• Engineering task planning, estimation and forecasting.
• Presentations for internal and external design milestone/phase gate reviews.
• Compliance with industry standards and safety regulations throughout the design process.
• Resource management internal and external. Ensure that the required level of SQEP is in place.
• Provide necessary planning detailing required tasks and hours to meet project requirements. Update technical plan as required due to additional tasks, potential scope change and design modifications.
• Develop specifications and design technical solutions that align with customer specification and user needs and the associated project goals.
• Lead, guide and develop a cross-functional engineering team in delivering subsea cable lay technical solutions to meet the required project milestone ensuring quality and delivery schedule adherence.
• Conduct DFMEA, FMECA and support HAZOP,HAZID and safety by design reviews.
• Lead design reviews, testing and simulations to validate concepts and improve designs.
• External technical work package coordination.
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including operations, assets, survey team, electrical engineers, naval architects, and systems engineers, to ensure seamless integration and compatibility of mechanical designs with other system elements.
• Development and mentoring of team.

We are currently seeking an Experienced Engineering Group Leader with extensive Subsea leadership experience inclusive of Trencher Vehicle, Cable lay operations, Cable Lay Vessel Equipment, and ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) equipment to join our dynamic and progressive team.

Demonstrable Experience Specific to Role

• Familiarisation of DNV, ICPC, ESPCA and IMCA standards and guidance requirements.
• Internal and customer acceptance of technical project deliverables.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Experience leading the technical part of the projects from conception to completion, including managing scopes, timelines, and deliverables.
• Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for marine systems and equipment. Experience designing for class approval of machinery and mechanical systems against Lloyd’s or DNV-GL is beneficial.
• Extensive experience within an offshore/subsea Technical Engineering discipline.
• Quality and robustness of technical solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Good understanding of subsea regulatory standards and requirements such as DNV codes.
• Experience managing engineering projects from concept to completion in a technical environment.
• Strong knowledge of engineering activity requirements in the subsea cable laying industry.
• Strong understanding of subsea products, offshore operations, and related engineering disciplines such as design, materials, structural analysis, testing, power and electrical engineering.
• Project Management Qualification such as APM, PMP or Prince.
• Ability to lead and develop teams, providing guidance, skill development and support for professional growth.
• Team performance and cohesion.
• Travel between European facilities depending on team split/allocation.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related engineering field.
• Familiarisation of cable lay vessels.
• From a lead design or lead project engineering background.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, and manufacturing processes relevant to subsea technology, enabling a confident and justified compromise of performance and cost.
• Demonstratable experience of managing successful multi-disciplined engineering teams.
• Capacity to priorities, plan, coordinate and communicate to enable successful delivery.
• Remains calm under pressure.
• Courageous and innovative mindset, unafraid to challenge conventional thinking and propose novel ideas.
• Previous experience in subsea engineering or related fields, specifically focusing on trenching tool design, cable lay equipment, cable lay operations and ROV equipment.
• Good organisational skills.
