OSP Engineer

Description

The OSP Engineer role focuses on designing, planning, and implementing outside plant projects for copper and fiber networks. Responsibilities include engineering design, permitting, field coordination, project support, and administrative tasks while managing budgets and ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.

• Design and plan OSP facilities for copper and fiber (aerial, buried, conduit).
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, loop loss calculations, and switch serving area designs.
• Conduct field measurements for poles, conduits, and buried facilities to support network design.
• Develop project budgets, monitor actual costs, and perform quality inspections.
• Prepare, organize, and submit permit packages to relevant agencies and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with municipal officials and utilities to avoid project delays and manage relocations.
• Update CAD (FROGS), Varasset, and SiteTracker tools as required.
• Work with SSP contractors to ensure timely, budget‑conscious project completion and manage make‑ready work.
• Conduct site surveys, support PUC complaint investigations, and create capital projects for cell towers or plant repairs.
• Resolve plant damage requests, cable count changes, and other network service needs.
• Maintain engineering records, draft correspondence, and process departmental documentation.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years hands‑on experience in copper and fiber optic network engineering; minimum 5 years in OSP‑related work.
• Strong project management, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
• Proficiency with Pearce engineering tools such as FROGS, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
• Effective communication and collaboration with municipal officials, utility companies, contractors, and cross‑functional teams.
• Willingness to travel locally for fieldwork and meetings; PST preferred, MST considered.
