The General Superintendent oversees all phases of solar construction, from pre‑construction planning through project closeout, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality. This senior leader coordinates field crews, project managers, customers, and utilities, and serves as the on‑site authority for execution.
Key duties include managing multiple public works projects, prioritizing work, conducting site visits, handling documentation, enforcing safety and code compliance, and using construction management software to track budgets, schedules, and materials.
The role involves regular travel throughout Northern California, operation of a vehicle, and physical tasks such as lifting and carrying up to 50 lb. Standard office equipment and personal protective equipment are used on‑site.
- Provides overall management and direction for multiple Public Works projects, ensuring safe, on-time, and on-budget execution.
- Prioritizes and assigns work to maximize productivity, minimize safety risks, and meet budget/schedule targets.
- Acts as the primary liaison between field crews, project management, customers, and utility companies for all construction activities.
- Interprets and enforces adherence to construction drawings, specifications, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable codes (NEC, UBC, OSHA).
- Regularly visits job sites to monitor progress, resolve issues, conduct quality/safety inspections, and provides timely project status updates.
- Recruits, trains, develops, schedules, and manages installation field staff, including apprentices.
- Reviews and approves payroll for self-perform crews in coordination with department leadership.
- Ensures field staff completes required daily documentation, including reports, JHAs, and tailgate meeting notes.
- Enforces safety compliance and supports onboarding and ongoing training requirements in partnership with the Safety Manager.
- Utilizes construction management software to manage budgets, schedules, materials, and project documentation.
- Monitors labor, materials, delays, and mobilizations; identifies budget variances and forecasts final project costs.
- Ensures all materials and equipment delivery paperwork is accurate and submitted on time.
- Partners with project managers to address field issues impacting schedules, budgets, or quality.
- Completes required administrative duties, including training records, inspection reports, and project closeout materials.
- Promptly and thoroughly reviews all requested health and safety training provided, asking questions for any topic not clearly understood.

MARS Energy EPC is expanding and seeks an experienced General Superintendent to lead its public works solar projects in Northern California. The role requires senior field leadership, extensive electrical construction expertise, and a California General Electrician’s license.
The position requires a high school diploma, a valid California General Electrician’s license, and preferably a degree in construction management or engineering. Candidates must have at least seven years of construction experience, five in a supervisory role, an OSHA 30 certification, and must pass background and MVR checks.
Desired competencies include expert knowledge of construction sequencing, civil construction, NEC/UBC/OSHA standards, budgeting and cost control, and strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities. Experience with large‑scale commercial and public‑works solar projects is preferred.
- Licensing Requirement: CA General Electrician's License is required for this role.
- Must be located in Northern California.

- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of construction field experience, with at least 5 years in a superintendent or senior supervisory role required.
- OSHA 30 certification required (or obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Must complete background & MVR check with acceptable results.
- Expert-level knowledge of construction sequencing, manpower allocation, and productivity optimization, with proficiency in construction management software such as Procore or MS Project.
- Experience with civil construction; experience with public contracts a plus.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control skills, paired with exceptional organizational abilities to manage multiple sites at once.
- Effective communication and leadership to influence and motivate teams, plus skill in conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure.
- Advanced knowledge of NEC, UBC, OSHA standards, and general construction codes.
- Extensive experience managing large-scale Commercial & Public Works construction projects, preferably in solar or electrical trades.
- Telephone, copier, laptop/computer, headset, hand tools, power tools, PPE.
- Ability to operate motor vehicle regularly.
