We are hiring a Software Engineering Lead to design and build the core backend of Remedy’s platform. The role is hands‑on for a senior backend engineer who will own system design and implementation, operate with high autonomy, limited process, and evolving requirements, and set the technical direction while writing the early production code and establishing engineering standards. Over time, the position may evolve into engineering management or a head‑of‑software role, but the immediate priority is building.
- Design, build, and own backend systems and workflow models from the ground up.
- Architect APIs, services, and data models for complex, evolving workflows.
- Write production code daily and maintain critical backend paths.
- Define technical direction with pragmatic architectural trade‑offs in a fast‑moving environment.
- Establish engineering best practices for testing, code reviews, deployments, and observability.
- Collaborate with product, scientific, and frontend teams to translate needs into reliable backend solutions.
- Provide clear code, documentation, and system foundations for future engineers.
- Lead backend engineer capable of owning architecture and delivering production code.
- Deploy and operate model‑serving systems integrating ML outputs.

- Experience transforming messy real‑world inputs into structured, reliable representations.
- Proven API and service design for customer‑facing reporting and downstream consumers.
- Deep proficiency in Python and TypeScript, including testing, maintainability, and performance considerations.
- Strong data‑modeling skills with relational databases, object storage, and search/indexing for document‑heavy systems.
- Comfortable building on GCP with knowledge of deployment, stability, and cost management.
- Early or first engineer experience at a startup.
- Background in scientific, data‑intensive, or regulated environments.
- Front‑end UI (website) design or maintenance experience.
- Experience creating data models with chemical or geospatial datasets.
- GIS integration expertise.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure‑as‑code, and monitoring tools.
