The Kiln Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, and operation of combustion systems within the kilns located within all of the company’s manufacturing locations. This role focuses on ensuring efficient firing processes, maximizing energy utilization, reducing emissions, and maintaining high product quality through effective control of thermal processes.

  • Design, develop, and optimize kiln systems, including burners, fuel delivery, and air supply, to meet specific firing requirements and minimize energy consumption.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to combustion equipment, refractory materials, and kiln components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, etc., to ensure effective kiln operations.
  • Conduct thermal analysis and simulations to predict kiln behavior and optimize performance.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to production and maintenance teams to resolve kiln-related issues and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and analyze kiln operation, such as temperature, pressure, and gas composition, to identify trends, diagnose problems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Utilize tools and methodologies, such as Lean/Six Sigma, to analyze and improve kiln operational efficiency.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical reports, documentation, and operational procedures related to kiln combustion systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for kiln-related issues and develop solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Stay updated with advancements in combustion technology, alternative fuels, and energy-efficient kiln designs.
  • Implement and maintain control strategies for combustion systems, ensuring precise temperature and atmospheric control.
  • Participate in or lead research and development projects to explore and implement innovative solutions for kiln combustion systems.

  • Experience in kiln operations, combustion systems, and thermal process engineering.
  • Familiarity with process control systems and instrumentation.
