Work with the sustainability reporting team to support submissions to local benchmarking programs, GRESB, ESG report, and provide QA/QC for data and property-specific allocations. Review the property’s climate risk assessments and consider resilience measures wherever feasible.
Lead recommendations for the annual corporate utility budget process for properties and manage natural gas hedging activities with consultant support, liaise with local utilities to optimize key contract renewals/terms and drive cost-saving initiatives.
Represent CF and participate in industry committees (e.g. BOMA, REALPAC, etc.), stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements, ensure compliance with upcoming regulations, identify and leverage incentives where feasible.
Engage in consultative and collaborative discussion with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership team members, key tenants, property team members, and joint-venture partners, etc. on topics related to climate action and climate resilience. Provide input to training programs to support property teams in implementing climate action projects and achieving corporate sustainability objectives.
Act as energy manager for CF’s properties in Ontario and Quebec, providing subject matter expertise to the operations team, support ongoing operational optimization and frequent utilities monitoring to check performance against annual energy/water/emission targets. Drive participation in local demand response programs, including the Ontario Global Adjustment (GA) election, and support curtailment plans and demand reduction initiatives.
Quickly build credibility and partner productively with internal stakeholders at all organizational levels and external stakeholders to advance agendas and deliver shared objectives.
Manage long-term decarbonization plans for properties, and contribute to the 10-year capital planning by integrating decarbonization and energy projects. Provide in-depth support for the business case and deployment of key large-scale, transformative decarbonization projects with significant capital investment to advance CF’s sustainability targets.

3+ Experience in new construction or major decarbonization projects, including developing low-carbon pathways, calculating savings, implementing measures, project management, and/or measurement and verification of savings.
Professional designation(s) such as a Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist (CET), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and/or licensed professional engineer (P.Eng). Other credentials such as LEED AP or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) is considered an asset.

Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field of study (e.g. Engineering, Building Science, Environmental Science, Architectural Science, etc.)

Familiarity with capital planning, cost effectiveness analysis (e.g. NPV), sensitivity analysis, and basic accounting.
Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset.

Effective oral and written communication skills to all levels of management and the operations staff.

Strong knowledge of key building systems such as HVAC, lighting, envelope and/or building automation/control systems.
Experience in consulting and/or commercial real estate is considered an asset.
