In this newly created role you will provide technical input and develop solutions throughout the identification, design, construction and commissioning phases. Your decisions and recommendations will be authoritative, often forming the final design input for projects.
- Review, update and develop detailed technical content and implementation plans for the emerging Environment Strategy, including SMART targets.
- Promote accountability for the strategy across the organisation by creating and managing a progress dashboard, aligning programmes, and reporting to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Support internal governance and embed the Environment Strategy within the company’s structure.
- Advocate strategic approaches to biodiversity and climate resilience throughout the business.
- Collaborate with Catchment Management, Asset Planning & Strategy, and Clean Rivers & Seas to align delivery plans with environmental goals.
- Translate the Strategy into internal and external communications, championing its visibility across various media.

- Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering environmental strategies.
- Significant strategic expertise in an environmental area such as biodiversity, carbon, or natural & social capital.
- Strong analytical skills; experience with GIS and data‑management systems is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills, able to engage senior stakeholders and present complex information clearly.
- Collaborative mindset and passion for driving environmental change.
Benefits
The position of Senior Environment Strategy Specialist is permanent, full‑time (37 hours, Monday‑Friday) with a hybrid working model (approximately two days per week in the Falmer, East Sussex office, negotiable). The closing date for applications is 30 January 2026 and the salary is around £60,000, dependent on skills and experience.
