This role is responsible for overseeing shelter activities, ensuring safety, security, and cleanliness, and providing immediate assistance to program participants. The monitor also serves as emergency coverage, works closely with fellow monitors, and communicates operational concerns to management.
- Assist clients with intake and exit paperwork.
- Monitor shelter entry and exit, enforcing guest policy.
- Maintain logs and complete incident reports.
- Handle donations received at the shelter.
- Provide on‑site assistance to program participants.
- Ensure safety, security, and cleanliness of shelter areas.
- Perform light‑maintenance and janitorial duties in common spaces, kitchen, bathrooms, grounds, and perimeter.
- Prepare vacant units with cleaning, light repairs, and painting.
- Clean up biohazards using appropriate PPE.
- Respond to participants' concerns and questions.
- Report operational feedback to the Shelter Operations Manager.
- Conduct emergency response and routine grounds checks.
- Call 911 for fire, injury, or other emergencies.
- Alert LIHI staff and management of incidents and safety concerns.
- Document incidents, maintenance needs, and operational issues within required timeframes.
- Foster a clean and safe shelter environment.
- Complete assigned training and meet deadlines.
- Use and follow PPE protocols.
- Provide services to low‑income or homeless populations.
- Maintain reliable transportation for work responsibilities.

Benefits
The Shelter Monitor position at Lakefront Community Shelter in Seattle (600 N 130th Street) is a full‑time, unionized (OPEIU 8) role offering a pay range of $21.90 to $28.34. Work hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12 am – 8 am, and the monitor reports to the Shelter Operations Manager.
