Join our Geospatial Data & Systems Services team in a leadership role that blends technical expertise with people management. Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial Data & System Services, you’ll lead a dedicated group of Asset Information System Owners and System Support Specialists to ensure Melbourne Water’s application portfolio remains secure, reliable, and fit for purpose.

You’ll be responsible for the performance, compliance, and lifecycle management of a suite of critical applications, working closely with both internal teams and external partners. Your role will involve guiding the team’s technical direction, fostering collaboration across IT and business units, and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery.

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.

  • Developing work plans and roadmaps for the application management portfolio to ensure Business Plan delivery.
  • Manage IT applications to improve costs, performance and end user satisfaction
  • Ensure consistent application of application and vendor management process and procedures, and drive and support improvement of systems and processes.
  • Contributing to improving service management and supporting processes to support Melbourne Water Business Units, including SLA’s, OLA’s and KPI’s
  • Fostering the development and maintenance of relationships with key internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Ensuring the team conducts Product Validation Testing (PVT) of changes impacting their Applications.
  • Ensure cost effective financial management of the Asset Information Systems IT Applications services including; reporting, license and contract management.
  • Ensure a reliable and highly available applications service in accordance with business requirements.
  • Support planning, operations, and production support related to the IT application portfolio

Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck. The role of Team Lead Asset Information Systems is deemed critical and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.

  • Extensive information technology problem solving experience.
  • Maturity and judgement necessary to contribute to complex decision making.
  • Excellent understanding of service management delivery methodology, frameworks, and best practice.
  • Strong leadership background in managing cross-functional teams within IT and business environments.
  • Willing to complete an Auscheck (this role is deemed critical according to the SoCI Act - please read information below).
  • Ability to lead change and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Awareness of standard project management processed (e.g. PRINCE2 or PMP).
  • Experience with the administration and deployment of business applications.
  • Willing to complete Police check.
  • High energy to take action and drive business results and efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of IT applications, systems and platform solutions/solution vendors (Specifically experience in ESRI Arc GIS, AutoCAD Suite, IBM Maximo or Accruent RedEye would be beneficial).
  • Understanding of IT Cyber security and emerging technologies to assist the organisation.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in IT or equivalent industry working experience.
