The Supplier Development Engineer reports to the Purchasing Manager and evaluates vendors’ operations and products for compliance with JCB’s quality and technical standards. Responsibilities include recommending vendor selections, compiling data for test procedures, preparing management reports, and defining and following up on corrective actions with suppliers.
Key responsibilities encompass supplier quality management—scheduling and performing QMS, process and product audits, issuing reports, and driving corrective action plans to achieve ISO 14000, ISO/TS 16949 and JCB standards. The engineer monitors supplier PPM, delivery and warranty performance, develops continuous‑improvement measures and escalates major risks, while also tracking supplier capacity against JCB demand and collaborating with the Buyer to mitigate supply risks. Daily activities include auditing, cross‑functional coordination, problem‑solving, data analysis, hosting program reviews and enforcing adherence to objectives.
This is a full‑time, exempt position based in Savannah, GA, with up to 75 % travel to domestic and international supplier locations. The role requires a valid passport, moderate fitness and agility to work in manufacturing environments where moderate to heavy equipment is used.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in engineering or quality and at least five years of experience with quality standards in a manufacturing setting. The candidate must pass drug screens, background checks and any pre‑employment tests.
Required skills involve proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP, strong data‑analysis and statistical abilities, project‑management experience, and knowledge of ISO 14000, ISO 9000 series, ISO TS 16949, Lean Six Sigma, SPC and related quality engineering tools. Effective verbal and written communication, the ability to read engineering drawings, and competencies in decision‑making, negotiation and safety awareness are also essential.
The work environment includes both office and occasional factory settings, with exposure to noise and temperature variations. Physical demands involve frequent sitting, occasional standing and walking, and lifting up to 10 lb, as well as the need for close, distance and depth vision.
