The Groundman role serves as an entry point to a career in constructing and maintaining the nation’s power grid. In this position, you will work alongside line‑workers to build, repair, and maintain overhead electrical distribution systems, contributing to project goals and emergency restoration efforts.
- Ensure personal and team safety on all tasks.
- Support line‑workers in meeting project objectives and storm restoration.
- Operate vehicles and equipment professionally.
- Travel long distances on short notice and work in various locations.
- Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines safely.
- Inspect and use rubber goods and personal protective equipment correctly.
- String overhead wire and set poles, anchors, and cross‑arms.
- Assist with installation of transformers, arrestors, cutouts, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Replace transformer fuses and clear faulted circuits.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Use company radios, rigging, hand lines, and lineman knots appropriately.
- Identify primary and secondary voltages and understand induced voltage.
- Check voltage on transformers and install/remove services.
- Follow minimum approach distance, excavation, and shoring requirements.
- Perform work in inclement weather and varied environmental conditions.

The job involves regular physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, and handling equipment under a variety of weather conditions. Workers are exposed to typical construction site hazards, including noise, vibration, fumes, and moving parts, and must adhere to strict safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
Successful candidates must be capable of obtaining a commercial driver’s license, communicating effectively, and traveling on short notice to diverse job sites.
