CNC Programmer

Description

A CNC programmer determines the sequence of shaping operations, selects appropriate cutting tools, analyzes job orders, drawings, and blueprints, performs necessary calculations, writes or modifies programs, stores them in the database, and ensures machines and programs operate correctly to meet product specifications.

• Develop, evaluate, and improve CNC machining methods, processes, and tooling strategies.
• Maintain CNC program and router database for each product by machine type.
• Support cost analyses for process, tooling, and equipment changes and post‑audit justifications.
• Participate in design and development of custom jigs and fixtures.
• Identify and resolve production issues related to machine setup, tooling, and programming.
• Lead Lean manufacturing, cost‑reduction, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Perform time studies to assess routing effectiveness, production run, and setup times.
• Collaborate with design engineering and production to optimize manufacturing processes and set standards for efficiency and quality.
• Generate process routings in the MRP system for current products and new introductions.
• Assist in recruiting and selecting shop CNC personnel.
• Support production supervisors in achieving company goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, a 2‑year Machine Tool Technical Diploma, or 2–4 years CNC programming experience (or equivalent combination).
• Experience in CNC machining environment with tooling and process development (preferred).
• Familiarity with Visual Basic or similar programming (a plus).
• Knowledge of 5‑axis machining (helpful) and CNC programming using Mastercam (preferred).
• Ability to write computer programs and skilled in blueprint reading and GD&T.
• Strong reading comprehension, mathematics, and active listening skills.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
• Critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Knowledge of Lean/World Class Manufacturing methods.
• Ability to instruct others and commit to continuous self‑learning.
• Effective time‑management techniques.
