Structural Detailer

Description

The Structural Detailer will develop detailed assembly and layout drawings for large structural steel projects, coordinate closely with Project Managers and customers to ensure design objectives are met, and handle field measurements and revisions throughout the fabrication process. This position also provides drawing support to shop foremen and field personnel, ensuring clear communication and accurate documentation. The role requires the use of standard Hohl formats and industry symbols for mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, and piping details.

• Develop assembly or layout drawings using Tekla Structures for large structural steel projects.
• Communicate with Project Manager and customers to ensure design objectives are met.
• Submit Request for Information (RFI) to Project Manager when clarification is required.
• Conduct field measurements of existing equipment and building details for integration.
• Revise approval drawings based on customer comments and obtain Project Manager approval.
• Create mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, and piping details using standard formats and symbols.
• Issue cutting lists and drawings to Shop Foreman and Project Manager with appropriate release forms.
• Provide drawing support and answer questions from shop foremen, shop employees, and field personnel.
• Maintain a record of all shop drawings, marking as‑built changes and updating prior to job closeout.
• Issue final steel erection and equipment drawings for project records.
• Prepare concept drawings for inclusion with quotations.
• Take full design, detail, and coordination responsibility for small shop fabrication jobs.

Requirements

Candidates should possess a High School Diploma or GED and have 3–5 years of experience using 3D drafting software, preferably Tekla Structures. Experience detailing structural steel and familiarity with AISC and AWS drawing and detailing standards are essential. Additional knowledge of welding codes, basic NDE methods, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is desired.

• Hold a High School Diploma or GED.
• Possess 3–5 years of experience with 3D drafting software, preferably Tekla Structures.
• Have 3–5 years of experience detailing structural steel and knowledge of AISC/AWS standards.
• Know AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges (preferred).
• Familiar with AWS welding codes D1.1, D1.5, D1.6, and D1.2.
• Basic knowledge of NDE methods including MT, PT, UT, and RT.
• Basic understanding of welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW, GMAW‑S, SAW, and SMAW.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrate eagerness to learn and grow within the industrial construction sector.
