The Lead Technical Designer is responsible for overseeing Bill of Material generation and the creation of mechanical customer drawings for project‑type orders, and will train new employees on these processes.
The role translates design requirements from standards, contracts, specifications, P&ID’s and flow diagrams into detailed product designs, proposals, arrangement models, and both pressure and non‑pressure component drawings. It ensures drawings meet proposal and contract specifications as well as ASME Section I and VIII standards, and verifies dimensions, fits and tolerances.
Additional duties include reviewing vendor equipment drawings, performing part‑time checks of arrangements and assembly/detail drawings, preparing complete Bills of Materials, producing shop support files such as DXF for CNC cutting and bend instructions, and generating shipping competency lists. The designer also participates in continuous‑improvement initiatives, determines optimal fabrication sequences, conducts on‑site equipment walk‑downs, and collaborates directly with fabrication facilities to resolve assembly issues.
Required education is a high school diploma or vocational/technical training, and the candidate must have 4‑6 years of experience in mechanical design drafting, AutoCAD, and 3D Inventor.
