We are seeking a Lead Receiver Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of solar thermal receivers for our energy systems. In this role you will own the engineering of components that absorb and transfer high‑flux solar radiation into thermal storage, working at the intersection of heat transfer, materials science, and optical engineering to push efficiency, durability, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Lead end-to-end design and development of high‑temperature solar thermal receivers for field integration.
- Create thermal and optical models to predict flux distribution, heat‑transfer efficiency, and thermal stress.
- Select and qualify materials capable of withstanding 800 °C–1000 °C+ temperatures and severe thermal cycling.
- Design receiver geometries (cavity, external, tubular, particle‑based) to maximize absorption and minimize losses.
- Collaborate with solar collection, controls, heat‑exchanger, and storage teams to ensure seamless system integration.
- Develop and execute high‑flux testing and accelerated life‑cycle evaluation protocols for prototypes.
- Drive design‑for‑manufacturing initiatives to reduce cost and improve producibility at scale.
- Stay current with advances in receiver technology, high‑temperature coatings, and selective absorber materials.

The position is based primarily in Miami, FL, with an alternate location option in Austin, TX for the right candidate, and relocation to one of these sites is required. We provide relocation assistance to support the move.
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science or related field; Master’s/PhD preferred.
- 7+ years designing thermal systems, especially high‑temperature solar receivers or heat exchangers.
- Deep expertise in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and solar‑thermal receiver design.
- Proficiency with thermal simulation tools such as ANSYS, COMSOL, or SolarPILOT.
- Experience with high‑temperature ceramics, refractory metals, and advanced alloys.
- Hands‑on experience taking receiver concepts through prototype testing to production.
- Preferred: experience with molten salt, liquid sodium, or particle‑based media; knowledge of selective absorber coatings; optical ray‑tracing; solar field optimization; publications or patents.
