- Refers complex, unusual problems to supervisor.
- Under general supervision, exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Work typically involves regular review of output by a senior coworker or supervisor.
- Drives tractor-trailer within yard or within short distances outside of yard, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering on the road and on company premises.
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean.
- Safely moves trailers to and from shipping and receiving doors. Safely moves trailers to and from designated parking areas on the yard.
- Ensures that tractor, trailer and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
- Performs all required safety checks (i.e. pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action. Reports all safety issues and/or required repairs.
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately reports any and all safety hazards.
- Upholds and follows yard safety and compliance regulations. Monitors activity in the yard and at the gate into the yard.

- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.
- Ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others.
- Typically located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness, such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes.
- Experience driving commercial vehicles. Experience with moving trailers.
- Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, and maneuvering material or equipment that may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.
- Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for past 3 years.
- HS Diploma or GED strongly preferred. Specialized skills training/certification may be required. Generally 2-5 years of experience in area of responsibility.
- Must have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the state in which the candidate resides with all the relevant endorsements required for type of equipment being operated.
