Engineer - Tool Design

Description

The Tool Design Engineer will join the Tooling team within the Engineering department, focusing on technical studies and the design of tools used for transporting and erecting the main equipment of a hydropower plant—including turbines, generators, valves, and hydromechanical components. The engineer will be responsible for executing already‑awarded projects across multiple regions, ensuring that tools meet the company’s standards and project schedules.

• Design tools per CoE Design Practices and validate with tooling principal engineer
• Perform analytical calculations for tool design considering allowable stress criteria
• Select materials from approved standards (ASTM, DIN, EN, SI, etc.)
• Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and bills of material for tools
• Conduct design reviews with cross‑functional teams and release engineering documents in PLM software

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
• More than 5 years of experience in mechanical design of hydro‑mechanical parts
• Strong analytical calculation and material selection skills; familiar with ASME, EN, IS standards
• Experience designing lifting and handling tools for hydro components or access platforms, or significant onsite experience
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (preferably NX) and PLM systems, able to produce detailed drawings and BOMs
• Good knowledge of design tolerances and GD&T
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for global, cross‑functional teams
• Proven leadership and result‑oriented approach
• Knowledge of hydropower plant products
