Description

As a Senior Structures Engineer you will support the Design Team Leader on a variety of structures schemes while taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior engineers and technicians. You will be responsible for delivering technically sound solutions, managing a small technical team and ensuring health and safety practices are embedded.

• Lead a team and produce technically sound engineering solutions
• Prepare and review designs, calculations, drawings and documentation to meet quality, cost and programme criteria
• Oversee junior staff actions and ensure responsibility for their work
• Mentor junior staff and act as a Delegated Engineer
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries
• Manage a small, locally based, single‑discipline technical team and deliver their workload
• Contribute to bid preparation and work‑winning activities
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
• Ownership of preparation and checking of deliverables to a high standard

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with extensive experience in the structures field, strong technical competence and the ability to produce and check high‑quality deliverables. Proficiency with software such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, commercial awareness, knowledge of CDM regulations and risk assessment are essential. Chartered status with ICE or IStructE, or an equivalent professional licence, together with a relevant degree, is desirable.

• Own projects from quotation preparation through to handover
• Extensive experience and expertise in the Structures field, gained in an engineering role
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound engineering solutions meeting standards and client requirements
• Proficient with relevant software such as LUSAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design
• Strong commercial awareness
• Good understanding of CDM and risk assessment
• Significant experience in hazard and risk management on projects
• Understanding of interface management across disciplines
• Chartered or incorporated status with ICE, IStructE or equivalent professional licence (desirable/essential on some contracts)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
