The Test Engineer role oversees the planning, development, and execution of test activities for advanced reactor technologies. The position coordinates with system engineers to define testing requirements, manages the full test‑hardware lifecycle—from development and procurement to fabrication, installation, testing, and decommissioning—and documents and shares results across the organization. Work may be performed in an office setting, remotely, or in a designated laboratory, and the role may involve exposure to high temperatures, noise, vibrations, hazardous chemicals, and the need to lift at least 25 lb.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, nuclear engineering, or a related field. Experience levels are defined as Level III (≈5 years), Level IV (≈10 years), and Level V (≈15 years) in test engineering, with advanced degrees (master’s or Ph.D.) or prior X‑energy performance able to substitute for part of the required experience. Hands‑on expertise in hardware development, testing, experimentation, and design‑of‑experiment planning is required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with instrumentation and controls planning, P&ID design, and component selection, as well as the ability to independently set up, implement, and troubleshoot I&C equipment for test assemblies. Candidates should be fluent in configuring and programming data acquisition systems and possess a broad background spanning mechanical, thermal, materials, and electrical wiring testing throughout the full technology development lifecycle.
The position offers a salary range that varies by level: Level III $93,600‑$156,000, Level IV $112,275‑$187,125, and Level V $126,450‑$210,750, adjusted for location and cost‑of‑living factors. X‑energy provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 401(k) plan with employer match, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability coverage, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement for professional development.
