Key duties include reviewing plans and MEP drawings, performing quantity take‑offs, identifying omitted items, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids, maintaining a centralized estimating database, and providing cost analysis and change‑order pricing throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review MEP plans and drawings and conduct complete quantity take‑offs.
- Identify omitted items and incorporate them into the overall estimate package.
- Solicit 3‑5 subcontractor bids per trade and evaluate them for compliance, price, material quality, insurance, and wages.
- Resolve bid questions with subcontractors and follow approved estimating practices.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of construction codes and industry trends.
- Utilize estimating software to calculate, record, and track cost data.
- Attend client meetings to address pricing questions and ensure client satisfaction.
- Price change orders, conduct site visits, deliver bids, and collaborate with project teams.
- Prepare itemized material and labor lists and compute cost factors for scheduling and vendor selection.
- Conduct studies to establish standard hour rates and identify cost‑reduction opportunities.
- Manage a centralized cost‑estimating database and formal estimation processes.
- Analyze completed projects, compare estimated versus actual costs, and recommend procedural improvements.

Candidates must hold a BS or BA in construction, engineering, management, or architecture and have at least five years of experience in estimating, construction engineering, or related roles within a general contractor environment. Strong computer, budgeting, purchasing, and organizational skills are required, and the salary ranges from $100,000 to $140,000+ based on experience.
- BS/BA in construction, engineering, management, or architecture (required).
- Minimum 5+ years experience in estimating, construction engineering, or project engineering within a general contractor setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office/Excel and estimating software.
- Excellent budgeting, purchasing, and organizational abilities.
- Demonstrated honesty, accountability, and reliability.
