As a Principal Structures Engineer you will act as a technical team leader, supporting the design team and the wider Structures Practice to deliver a portfolio of schemes. The role combines design management, commercial oversight, client liaison and the development of sustainable bridge and civil‑structure solutions throughout all project stages.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to teams, managers, clients and suppliers.
- Lead preparation and review of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
- Manage project budgets and ensure commercial success.
- Engage with client and supplier representatives, presenting proposals.
- Lead bid preparation, delivering technical and commercial offers.
- Assume people‑manager responsibilities when required.
- Develop sustainable bridge and civil‑structure solutions across project stages.
- Undertake and review structural analysis and design calculations.
- Manage production of carbon and cost estimates, 3D models, drawings and reports.
- Represent the structures practice in multidisciplinary meetings.
- Apply engineering theory to complex situations and optimise outcomes.
- Resolve interface clashes and manage discipline‑specific interfaces.

The ideal candidate is a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (ICE/IStructE) with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in the discipline, deep knowledge of CDM, risk assessment and relevant codes such as DMRB and Eurocodes, and proven experience in highway structures or major bridges. Proficiency in Lusas or Midas software, strong people‑management skills and excellent communication abilities are essential.
- Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer (ICE/IStructE) with a relevant degree.
- Strong knowledge of CDM, risk assessment and ability to act as Principal Designer.
- Familiarity with DMRB, Eurocodes and other applicable standards.
- Expertise in design and specification processes and project team leadership.
- Excellent oral communication and ability to deliver training workshops.
- Extensive experience with highway structures or major bridges and structural behaviour.
- Proficiency in Lusas or Midas software (mandatory).
