Reporting directly to the Vice President, Hospitality the Senior Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing and reviewing the daily accounting operations of the team including preparation and review of ledger entries and reconciliations ensuring compliance with financial accounting policies and procedures and assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, as well as providing financial insights that contribute to the strategic decision-making process.
In addition to financial accounting and reporting, the Senior Finance Controller will oversee the accounting and administrative functions related to accounts receivable, merchant services, and cash management activities. This role involves direct supervision of accounting staff, fostering professional growth through mentorship, goal setting, and performance evaluations. The Senior Finance Controller will ensure the effective utilization of accounting systems, maintain internal controls to protect organizational assets, and support various revenue initiatives.
- Administrator for Merchant Services Accounts including payment processing platforms, Gift Cards, Cash Machine & Cash Management
- Initiate and maintain the annual budget process, quarterly and monthly forecasts
- Prepare accounting information for internal and external audits
- Effectively implement financial processes and systems to fulfil these responsibilities
- Maintain positive relations with internal and external clients, and always respond promptly to their requests
- Build and maintain solid relationships with clients, guests, subcontractors, non-profit organizations and other Compass employees
- Complete all projects on schedule and in a professional manner
- Oversee the completion of required departmental reports and the compilation of end-of-month reports
- Use all performance management tools to provide constructive advice and comments to the team.
- Prepare and execute periodic financial performance presentations
- Provide accurate and targeted financial analyses upon request
- Closely monitor the accuracy of payroll information and deadlines for submission
- Organize regular meetings to ensure proper communication between the management team and department employees.
- Support the company’s initiatives in the department
- Ensure that employees follow Compass standards as outlined in the training manual and employee handbook
- Review bank reconciliations
- Oversee the entire payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable process
- Ensure that all sales reports and financial statements are accurate before disseminated
- Directly supervise, mentor, and provide training and support to finance team to meet operational needs.
- Financial administrator for POS systems.
- Develop and put in place an action plan to meet financial goals
- Perform annual goal setting and participate in performance appraisals for direct report.
- Provide support to business units in the development of their annual budgets and forecasts to ensure accuracy, consistency and reliability.
- Perform any other related tasks, including data entry, payroll
- Clearly communicate financial results to the management team on a regular basis
- Make sure to liaise with the team, including the operations team of our partner, McGill University, and any other required sector to guarantee efficient operational performance
- Act as a mentor to department managers to develop their talents and leadership skills.
- Manage a team of 2 employees, and ensure that they are trained and productive

- 3 to 5 years of financial analysis experience
- Professional accounting designation or close to completing preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting/finance role – either in public accounting or similar industry
- Experience in the food service or retail industry (multi-site) considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good command of Microsoft Office Suite
- Self-motivated with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Show great attention to detail
- University degree in accounting or finance or the equivalent
- Thrive under pressure with multiple concurrent deadlines.

Salary range: $90,000 to $100,000 (based on relevant experience)
