As Head of Product – Smart Buildings, you will own the product vision, strategy, and portfolio execution for a global suite of IoT products that make workplaces smarter, healthier, and more sustainable from occupancy sensing and indoor air quality to energy monitoring and building management. The role holder will serve as the bridge between customers, vendors, business stakeholders, and technical teams to deliver solutions that enhance workplace efficiency, sustainability, and occupant experience. You will lead the Product organisation and be ultimately responsible for the customer growth, revenue impact and profitability of the product family. You will do this through partnering directly with leadership in engineering, sales, marketing, and client delivery. You will shape the roadmap, drive commercial success, and serve as the face of the product in client-facing and go-to-market activities along with overseeing the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualization to launch and from deployment to its roadmap. As an effective people manager, you will manage a team of professionals directly including Product Owners, Business Analysts and Solution Experts.
Right size, right design: Enabling informed decisions using real-time data to achieve portfolio optimization and the right workplace design
- Product Performance Management: Define KPIs, track adoption, ensure product quality, and drive iterative improvements. Oversee full product lifecycle from concept to scale. Review support tickets to ensure performance within KPIs.
- Strategic Road mapping: Own and execute the product quarterly based roadmap, ensuring alignment across teams, stakeholders, and vendor partners. Develop and execute roadmaps into sprints and releases. Lead research initiatives to deeply understand segments, customer behaviour, competitive landscape, NPS, and use this to steer product, pricing, and customer strategies.
- Client Engagement & Market Advocacy: Act as primary product leader in key client meetings for US/UK and global accounts. Regularly interface with enterprise client authorities to capture needs and inform roadmap. Analyse NPS performance and plan incorporation to maximize client advocacy.
- Product Development Planning: Oversee and conduct the end-to-end product development process, from ideation and design and user story creation to implementation and launch (including documentation and release comms). Act as a subject matter expert on competition, emerging technologies, and smart building industry trends.
- Facilitate backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospective meetings.
- Manage the backlog, write clear requirements and user stories, and facilitate effective sprint planning and stand-ups
- Product Vision & Strategy: Set and communicate a bold, market-leading product vision and strategy that aligns with Freespace’s growth goals. Continually refine the roadmap based on client needs, market trends, and commercial opportunities.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate product strategies, updates, and roadmaps effectively to internal stakeholders, executives, and external partners.
- Work at the forefront of smart building innovation, shaping sensor and automation solutions that transform workplaces.
- Product Marketing and Market Development: Partner closely with GTM, marketing, and sales teams to develop positioning, launch plans, and ensure product-market fit for global rollouts.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and empowered, autonomous teams
- Collaborate closely with engineering, design, marketing, customer success, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and foster cross-functional teamwork
- Own key product metrics (adoption, retention, NPS, etc.), apply data-driven decision making, and optimize for business outcomes
- Third party vendor management: Oversee vendor partnerships and third-party integrations related to sensors, edge devices, and cloud connectivity.
- Drive early and continuous delivery of product improvements.
- Commercial Leadership: Own product pricing, monetization strategies (subscription, licensing, feature pricing), and actively collaborate with executive leadership to maximize margins and client value.
- Oversee the product lifecycle from ideation through development, launch, iteration, and deprecation, using Agile methodologies for planning and delivery
- Champion product quality and innovation through frequent releases and continuous customer feedback loops
- Make trade-offs in requirements and priorities based on business value.
- Gather, analyse and validate user needs and market research to inform product decisions
- Risk, Compliance & Quality: Ensure high compliance with industry standards, client SLAs, and regulatory needs in all product offerings. Ensure reliability, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance across IoT deployments. Drive interoperability and compliance with industry standards (BACnet, MQTT, Modbus) and sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).

- Knowledge of building operations, facilities management, and energy optimization strategies.
- Experience with data analytics, device-to-cloud communications, and real-time monitoring concepts. • Practical knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for IoT fleets, including encryption, authentication, and firmware security.
- 15–20 years’ experience with proven success in managing IoT or Smart Building products including at least 8 years in leadership roles with direct accountability for teams and enterprise product success
- Strong understanding of PaaS and SaaS architectures with working knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience level: 15–20 years
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to present effectively to both technical and leadership audiences.
- Ability to work independently, navigate organizational complexities, and secure resources or support to drive initiatives forward.
- Solid exposure to IoT technologies and embedded systems development, including sensor hardware, device architecture, wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRaWAN, etc.), and edge computing.
- Technical fluency with APIs and integration techniques for connecting sensors to BMS software, dashboards, and third-party platforms.
- Familiarity with energy monitoring and management systems, including HVAC integration, smart lighting, and optimization of energy usage in enterprise workspaces.
- Strong commercial sense with direct experience in product pricing, revenue leadership, and client negotiation •
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and interpret customer requirements, market insights, and product performance data.
- Demonstrable success in building and scaling enterprise-grade IoT solutions for global markets
