- Perform climbing maintenance on all transmission structures, except on cross-arms carrying energized conductors.
- Set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages.
- Use proper methods to attach tools and materials to life ropes and cables, for installation or use in the air.
- Maintain records and submit reports as required.
- Properly prepare right-of-way items on field drawings
- Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines
- Select and apply proper knots.
- Install conductors and shield wires
- Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.
- Assemble tower components on the ground and in the air.
- Identify conductor types and sizes.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Operate miscellaneous transmission motor-driven tools.
- Frame pole structures on the ground and in the air.
- Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
- Dig holes for poles, towers and anchors.
- Make up and install guys.
- Perform rigging and tying off ropes.
- Replace or stub poles, dead or energized.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
- Under direct supervision of a qualified person, assist in the use of live line tools, bare-hand techniques, rubber gloves and sleeves, and other accepted work methods to maintain transmission lines.
- Set up reels for conductor installation.
- Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment as authorized and directed by supervision.
- Make up conductor and shield wire splices, dead-ends and terminals.
- Operate truck-mounted lifting/pulling devices.
- Test and support poles before climbing as required.
- Use proper hand signals for line work as required.
- Load and unload poles, steel and other materials.
- Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
- Install, maintain and repair overhead lines.
- Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines.
- Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.

- Minimum Requirement Line Mechanic Amount of Weight Lifted from Floor/Ground to Waist Level - 75
- Amount of Weight Lifted to Eye Level - 30
- Shall have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Lineman C or the equivalent and shall qualify through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Lineman A) in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
- A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
- Distance to Walk Accumulated over the Course of an 8-Hour Shift - 2 Miles Distance in Feet to Climb and Work on a Ladder/Structure - 100 and Higher Distance in Feet to Ascend to and Work in a Bucket/Lift - 150 and Higher (Tested at 60’)Ability to Discriminate between Colors Yes (Not Tested)
- Shall have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Lineman B or the equivalent and shall qualify through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
- Must acquire within such time frame as determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher classification in the line of progression, or vacate the current job classification. A physical abilities assessment is also required for this position.
