The role leads the development and execution of HR strategies, builds a people‑centric culture, and ensures compliance with employment laws. It serves as a trusted advisor to team members, managers, and senior leaders across all departments, driving engagement, productivity, and talent acquisition.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with senior leadership to create a People Strategy, managing talent acquisition, leadership development, compensation, benefits, equity, and employee engagement programs. The VP oversees core HR processes such as payroll, retirement plan administration, health‑and‑welfare planning, affirmative action, and continuous leadership learning, while using data‑driven insights to shape talent and culture initiatives.
Required qualifications are demonstrated HR knowledge, understanding of federal and state regulations, strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field, 5+ years of HR experience, experience with HRIS systems (Paylocity a plus), Microsoft Office proficiency, experience managing a team of three or more, and bilingual English/Spanish.
The position demands occasional walking, standing, lifting, and visual tasks, with intermittent moderate noise exposure. Travel is primarily local during business hours, though some evening or weekend meetings may be required. Candidates must pass pre‑employment physicals, drug screens, and background checks; Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City maintains a drug‑free workplace.
Habitat KC is hiring a full-time Vice President of People and Culture who will work 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4:30 pm, reporting to the President and CEO. The position is salaried, exempt, benefits‑eligible and will supervise a Senior HR Generalist and an Equity Specialist.
