Power Engineer Coop – Student Operator (3rd Class)

Description

The co‑op student will report to the Operations Manager and work with the Operations and Maintenance teams to support maximum efficiency, reliability and safety of plant operations. The role is unionized and requires the student to be enrolled and scheduled to return to school after the term.

• Operate and maintain gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, a triple‑pressure steam turbine, and related equipment.
• Assist with water‑treatment plant activities, including testing and analysis.
• Use the computerized maintenance management system and work with PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces.
• Perform safety tasks such as lockout procedures and hazard assessments/job safety analyses.
• Carry out routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
• Observe plant start‑up, shutdown and operation per Atura Power procedures and O. Reg. 219/01.
• Climb ladders and work at heights or in confined spaces.

Requirements

Atura Power operates Ontario’s largest fleet of combined‑cycle turbine gas plants, supplying flexible electricity across the province. Facilities are located in Napanee, Halton Hills, Toronto and Windsor, and the company ensures power is available during peak demand periods. Starting June 1, a three‑month co‑op offers hands‑on experience working alongside the operations team.

• Hold a 3rd‑class Ontario Operating Engineering licence.
• Be enrolled in school for the following term.
• Possess a driver’s licence and access to a vehicle (plants not reachable by transit).
• Lift or move loads up to 50 lb.
