FOOD SERVICE MANAGER

Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Food Service Manager provides overall leadership and direction for the Food Service Department, ensuring residents receive safe, nutritious, and high‑quality meals that meet individual dietary needs and promote a positive dining experience. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, organizational policies, and best practices to support resident health, well‑being, and satisfaction.

The position involves both office‑based work and an active presence in all areas of nutrition and food service operations, with hours aligned to meet the home’s operational requirements. The employee must manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented setting, interact daily with residents, staff, and visitors, and consistently follow infection control, food safety, and occupational health and safety standards.

• Plan, organize and provide high‑quality dietary services for residents.
• Apply continuous quality improvement principles and standardization to meet legislative requirements.
• Select, supervise and motivate dietary staff; ensure teamwork and productivity.
• Ensure food preparation and storage areas meet Public Health requirements.
• Maintain records and post regular and therapeutic menus per policies.
• Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, officials, and professionals regarding care needs.
• Participate in budgeting; accountable for departmental budget and food costs.

Requirements

• Current membership with CSNM or College of Dietitians of Ontario.
• Minimum 2 years dietary management experience in long‑term care.
• Strong leadership skills to direct employees.
• Superb organizational, time management, and multi‑tasking abilities.
• Experience managing employees in a unionized setting.
• Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices, principles, and legislation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Flexibility to participate in manager on‑call rotation schedule.
• Completion of a 2‑step TB skin test within the last 12 months.
