The Role

Tasks

-Respond to administrative and logistical/technology issues (eScribe) that are escalated by the Legislative Specialists. -Write reports to Council. -Oversee development and maintenance of process documentation and coordinate with the City Manager's Office. -Lead technology or process improvements. -Assign specific tasks to the Legislative Specialists working on the Organizational Meeting and the Budget Meeting. -Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely responses to Administration questions about legislative processes. -Check the Clerk's memos/agendas/minutes prior to submission to Management. -On-board, train, and support the development of Legislative Specialists. -Manage escalations of issues as forwarded by the Legislative Specialists and escalating again as necessary where issues have broad implications for Administration. -Act as Legislative process subject matter expert and functional lead for the Legislative Specialists (LS). -Ensure continuity of meeting support. -Responsible for clerking Committee meetings.

What You Bring

-A completed Diploma in Business Administration or in a related field with at least 6 years of senior administrative experience in any levels of government or senior administrative work in large corporations, including clerking or working with parliamentary procedure. -Degree in Administrative Law, Business, Commerce, Political Science or Public Administration and at least 4 years of senior administrative experience in any levels of government or senior administrative work in large corporations, including clerking or working with parliamentary procedure, OR -Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with well-developed leadership abilities. -Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. -Experience in project management is considered a strong asset. -Knowledge of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act , parliamentary meeting rules and experience working with interpreting and applying legislation to government environments is required. -Demonstrated research and organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to remain calm in stressful, high-pressure public meeting situations, tact and diplomacy, and the ability to effectively manage and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities.
