Principal Environmental Consultant – Water Quality & Management

Description

Working within a multidisciplinary group of water and environmental specialists, the consultant will lead specialist project delivery, oversee large technical elements, and act as a technical lead from bidding through to execution and close‑out. Responsibilities include clear communication with clients, commercial understanding, maintaining service quality, and, where needed, managing staff and developing new business opportunities.

• Lead specialist water and environmental projects from inception to close‑out.
• Oversee technical delivery and large‑scale multidisciplinary programmes.
• Develop proposals and win new business.
• Manage client and stakeholder relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical leadership and clear communication within teams and to clients.
• Mentor and potentially manage staff, supporting their technical development.
• Foster collaborative, multi‑stakeholder environments and prioritise workload effectively.
• Contribute to innovative sustainability projects and stay abreast of industry methodologies.

Requirements

Ricardo’s Water & Environment Team is experiencing rapid growth, driven by strong relationships with UK water companies and airport operators. The team supports multiple environmental frameworks and large capital water and wastewater projects. The role seeks an experienced consultant with technical expertise and the ability to manage projects throughout their lifecycle.

• Demonstrate extensive experience in hydrology, hydro‑ecology or freshwater catchment science.
• Possess deep knowledge of UK water industry regulations.
• Hold an environmentally‑related degree (post‑graduate preferred) and a clean UK driving licence.
• Exhibit strong organisational, communication and presentation skills.
