The Fleet Category Manager - Heavy Off-Road (Mobile Plant & Equipment) is responsible for the design, acquisition, and delivery phase of all Fleet capex requests. The Category Manager will research national and international manufacturers, obtain quotes, and carry out critical risk assessments on all capex requests. What you'll be working on Fundamental to this role will be implementing innovation and technology solutions aimed at reducing the capital investment administration burden along with a strong focus on continuous improvement of existing processes and procedures for capital investment and business partner management. This is a highly mobile position requiring extensive travel to ensure success. This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

  • Financial: Deliver monthly analysis and reporting of current and planned purchases to ensure they support the overall Fleet strategy and operational efficiency - On time on budget
  • Asset Management: Key contributor and facilitator of the annual Capital Expenditure (Capex) process and monitor and report on the national Fleet assets.
  • Systems and Processes: Map key business processes and identify opportunities to standardise, simplify and make processes more efficient and accessible.
  • Cross Community Fleet & Equipment Leadership: Assist in the planning and placement of assets that are utilised across the various communities of Downer Fleet.
  • Supply Network Management: Manage the supply network to create efficiency and ensure that required outcomes are delivered by third parties and partners.
  • Fleet Relationships: Establish strong relationships with our Fleet investment business partners and OEM equipment manufacturers. Reporting and managing time effective design, delivery and support of assets within their category.
  • People Management & Development: Support, mentor and facilitate teams to drive collaboration.

  • Qualification in Automotive Engineering Heavy Equipment or similar strong Trade background is required.
  • An exceptional focus on Health & Safety and Zero Harm practices.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office applications and JDE an advantage.
  • Supply chain management and negotiation within the construction or heavy transport disciplines.
  • Experience of managing an extensive Fleet and equipment design and procurement program.
  • Clear understanding of positive leadership behaviours and strong and successful collaborative relationships with peers in a corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of construction and civil road equipment such as rollers, loaders, excavators, ATVs and other off-road equipment.
  • Proven track record in developing successful relationships with customers and major suppliers.
