The Lead Designer/Engineer serves as the primary technical contact for projects and collaborates closely with the Project Manager to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives. This role also contributes to the development and maintenance of company technical standards.
In this position, you will develop deep expertise in at least one discipline, refine technical standards, and stay current through seminars and factory tours. You will mentor junior staff, train teams on master design tools, produce independent designs, document owners’ requirements, and generate multiple design options with clear pros and cons. Additional duties include researching code questions, collaborating with architects, providing ongoing technical guidance, ensuring design coordination and quality, leading construction administration, and managing design‑hour budgets while adhering to QA/QC processes.
- Develop deep expertise in at least one subject area and refine company technical standards.
- Attend seminars, training sessions, and factory tours to stay current in your field.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to project teams requiring subject‑matter expertise.
- Train staff on master design tools and standards.
- Produce independent technical designs based on client and project manager criteria.
- Document owner’s project requirements and generate multiple design options with pros and cons.
- Research and resolve non‑standard code questions with authorities having jurisdiction.
- Collaborate with architectural partners to realize design vision.
- Assess and analyze existing systems while maintaining knowledge of all design specialties.
- Offer ongoing technical guidance and delegate design work to team members.
- Ensure design meets quality expectations, coordinates across disciplines, and stays on schedule.
- Lead construction administration, including attending construction meetings.
- Manage design hours budget and adhere to QA/QC processes.
- Identify and resolve design issues to keep projects within budget.
- Notify the project manager of any out‑of‑scope design service requests.

Candidates must hold an associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field and possess at least six years of building‑systems experience. Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD, design software, and the Microsoft Office suite is required, and a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is preferred.
