The Manufacturing Engineer – Chemical and Heat Treatment – Submarines role is a full‑time, on‑site position in Derby, working five days a week within the Core Production Chemical Processing and Heat Treatment Manufacturing Engineering Team. The role involves handling special processes such as acid cleaning and annealing, and contributes to both production support and new product introduction.
You will work in a four‑person team alongside Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality and Production Planning to resolve emergent technical issues with a focus on quality, cost and delivery. Responsibilities include applying DFMEA/PFMEA to drive improvements, maintaining engineering technical governance throughout the manufacturing process, supporting new product introductions, and managing workload and resource capacity to ensure robust commitments. Shift support may be required during production phases.
Successful candidates will hold a degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering or Chemical discipline, with technical experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical processing or heat treatment. Strong communication, stakeholder management, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential, along with a proven record of problem‑solving and familiarity with Six Sigma and lean techniques. Excellent organisational and presentation abilities are required, as is the willingness to obtain a Security Check clearance.
