- Preparation of final as-builts
- Prepare Daily diaries and maintains inspection records
- Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP
- Assist Resident Engineer with response to Request for Information from Contractor
- Perform constructability reviews
- Oversee staff performing daily field inspections
- Keep abreast of new methods and developments
- Inspects construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications; observes work in progress to assure conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship
- Verify field dimension including vertical and horizontal field control for structures
- Ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements and shop drawing prepared by contractor
- Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction
- Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning the structures
- Assist in the preparation of contract change orders, contract estimates, progress pay estimates, and other documents or reports required for the Project. Coordinate the sampling and testing of construction materials to monitor compliance with contract specifications.
- Performing calculation and acceptance of temporary structures as used in construction of bridges and structures including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, temporary supports.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Ability to work independently. Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems.
- Caltrans experience, highly desired.
- 20+ years of experience in construction management for heavy civil engineering projects, with a focus on structural elements.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California (required).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Experience administering Caltrans Structures Construction projects and familiarity with their standards and practices.
- Proficient in contract administration and documentation, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently. Ability to perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problem
- Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Ability to review submittals including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, QA plans submitted by the contractor
- In-depth understanding of structural design and construction, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and related infrastructure.
