Lead P&C Field Engineer

Description

• Interpret schematics and wiring diagrams; apply company and client-specific test procedures
• Perform field testing and maintenance on substation equipment, including relays (electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor), pilot channel systems, SCADA inputs, alarms, function switches, and protection schemes
• Ensure all site activities meet operational and safety standards
• Plan, coordinate, and execute testing activities on schedule and according to safety and quality standards
• Support junior field personnel and collaborate with engineers and project managers
• Communicate clearly with internal teams, clients, and control centers throughout project execution
• Document test results and field service reports accurately and on time
• Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
• Commission new substations and perform upgrades, troubleshooting, and validation of relaying and communications systems

Requirements

• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Willingness to travel up to 70%, including overnight stays
• 10+ years of experience in commissioning, protection & control testing, and relay calibration
• Comfortable working around energized equipment and heavy machinery with appropriate PPE
• Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when needed
• P&C Engineering or Substation Design background
• Experience in both utility and industrial power environments
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
• High school diploma or GED required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required for safe work and clear reporting
• To be skilled in interpreting wiring diagrams, single-line drawings, and elementary schematics
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and periodic random testing
• An associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology
• Extensive experience with P&C system integration, panel checkout, pilot channels (fiber, power line carrier, etc.), and SCADA systems
• Strong knowledge of three-phase power systems and related protection schemes
• Proficiency with substation test equipment, tools, and testing software
• Able to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
• 5+ years leading field execution, coordinating testing plans, and mentoring technicians
• Hands-on familiarity with integration/automation devices and digital fault recording
• Prior experience commissioning protection systems in transmission and distribution substations
• Hands-on experience with data/SER/Fault recording and substation automation equipment
